New! Aromatherapy for Beautiful Skin
Series of 5 Workshops

"AAT has made my life livable again! My Body had become intolerant to almost everything I ate, causing severe hives attacks to my body. These attacks were so uncomfortable I was constantly in tears and ice packing my arms just to numb the discomfort I was in. I had to cut out so many food options causing me to lose weight quickly, being an athlete this was very upsetting, I was feeling very depressed and desperate for relief.

Traditional medicine was no help. I couldn’t stand all the medicine the doctors had me on and it really only offered temporary relief. Once I started with AAT it did take several months of weekly treatments before I felt some real relief. However I am now able to live hives free, eat as I did before. My quality of life is 100% better. I would recommend this to anyone who suffers from chronic allergies."

Advanced Allergy Therapeutics (AAT) offers a unique and highly effective approach in treating the many symptoms associated with allergies and sensitivities. AAT is a precision-based therapy that treats the organ systems involved in an overreaction. AAT does not treat the immune system; instead, the therapy focuses on inappropriate reactions to a harmless substance in relation to the organs systems to produce rapid, long-term results for the relief of associated symptoms. AAT merges 21st century science with 3,000-year-old Traditional Acupuncture and traditional Naturopathic Medicine principles in offering an effective alternative in the treatment of symptoms associated with allergies and sensitivities.

Advanced Allergy Therapy is:

  • Non-invasive
  • No needles
  • No herbal remedies
  • No supplements
  • No avoidance
  • Just results!

WHAT IS AN ALLERGY?

UNDERSTANDING ALLERGIES AND SENSITIVITIES

Allergies and sensitivities are caused by an inappropriate reaction to harmless substances.

The word “allergy” comes from the Greek allos, meaning “other”. It was first used in 1906 to refer to an "altered reaction" in the body's immune system.

allergy-1A “true allergy” is a reaction triggered by the immune system, however there are a vast number of symptoms or conditions caused by sensitivities that may or may not involve the immune system. With reactions involving food, a large percentage of the population believe they have allergies, yet fewer than 2% actually have true allergies. In fact, many suffer from undiagnosed food sensitivities or intolerances. The majority of patients who seek the AAT treatment do not have true allergies; their symptoms are likely to be caused by sensitivities with no immune involvement. Since there are few options for the treatment of sensitivities, other than avoidance, AAT provides a highly effective alternative. Symptoms caused by true allergies, however, also respond well to the treatment as the organs systems involved in the reaction are also addressed.

The use of the word “allergy” has become a generic term used by the public to describe allergies, sensitivities and intolerances.

WHAT IS AAT?

Advanced Allergy Therapeutics (AAT) is a clinically proven treatment that is highly effective in relieving the many symptoms associated with allergies and sensitivities. It is a therapeutic approach that was developed from over 16 years of clinical research. The AAT treatment does not rely on the use of medications, herbal remedies or supplements. The treatment is safe, painless and available to all ages including infants.

allergy-3HOW DOES AAT WORK?

Advanced Allergy Therapeutics works directly with the relationship between the major organ systems and inappropriate reactions to harmless substances. While the immune system is responsible for initiating an immune reaction in the case of true allergies, it is the health and state of the organ systems that often determines the type of symptoms that may arise. With both sensitivities and allergies, symptoms typically stem from the organ system affected. For example, one patient may have a reaction to soybean by getting rashes while another patient may react with sinus congestion, heartburn or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The symptoms in each of these cases represent a different organ system involved. By treating the organ system(s) involved in a reaction, the body is able to respond more appropriately.

During treatment, gentle pressure is used on points that correspond with the organ systems involved in a reaction. The degree of stress on the organ systems caused by an allergen or offending agent, is proportional to the degree of the negative reaction. While the stimulation is applied, a subtle representation of the offending substance is introduced to the surface of the skin. The stimulation reduces the stress on the effected organ system, allowing for a more appropriate response.

All Wholistic fields of medicine are aligned in the approach to treat the whole body. They share the understanding that health conditions may develop as a result of interference in proper functioning caused by various forms of stress or other factors. Reducing the stress or interference allows for optimal health. When the specific organ system is supported and stress is reduced, the whole body is able to respond more appropriately.

AAT does not diagnose allergies, sensitivities or intolerances.

AAT does not test for allergies or sensitivities. The AAT system simply assesses what may be causing a stress to the body.

AAT does not cure allergies, nor does the therapy treat the immune system. AAT is a highly effective treatment that provides long-term relief from symptoms associated with allergies or sensitivities.

AAT does not treat cases of anaphylaxis or life threatening symptoms. Strict avoidance is always advised in these cases.

SYMPTOMS TREATED

A sensitivity or inappropriate reaction may cause symptoms from any organ system in the body. Some systems are prone to reacting to certain families of allergies or substances, such as the respiratory system reacting to pollen. However, a substance may affect any organ system, which could cause a multitude of symptoms varying from case to case. For example, a reaction to wheat may cause hives in one person, digestive issues in another, fatigue, wheezing or Acid Reflux all in different patients. AAT addresses the specific organ systems affected by the allergen or offending substance.

Digestive System

Symptoms includeIBS,  reflux, heartburn, abdominal and intestinal pain, cramping, gas, bloating, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Primarily caused by reactions to food or other ingestants.

Respiratory System

allergy-4Seasonal Allergies, Hayfever, reactions to ragweed, grass, weeds, and more. Symptoms include sneezing, congestion, runny nose, wheezing, shortness of breath, coughs, postnasal drip, skin conditions, rashes and itchy, watery eyes. Reactions may be associated with pollens, dust, food, chemicals and animals (including dog and cat dander and bird feathers), air-borne substances and contactants.

Dermatological

Symptoms may include red, itchy, or scaly skin rashes, blisters with oozing and crusting, dry leathery patches or hives. The main cause of dermatological reactions can be a reaction to food but can also be caused by plants, contactants and chemicals.

Headaches and Migraines

May be caused by reactions to food such as chocolate and caffeine, airborne irritants such as pollens and chemicals including household cleaners, perfumes and vehicle fumes.

Tiredness and Fatigue

Many reactions result in lethargy and feelings of fatigue. Tiredness can also occur at certain times of the day, such as in the afternoon after eating.

Multiple Systems

Symptoms may affect multiple systems in the body, resulting in headaches, irritability, hyperactivity, mood swings, fatigue, tachycardia, or inflammation.

General

Chemicals , household cleaners, perfumes, building materials, washing detergents, pesticides.

Occupational sensitivities such as latex or building materials such as paints, glues, carpets, woods or varnishes.

Animals
Cat and Dog allergies.

Environmental
Heat, cold and humidity/dampness, barometric pressure changes.

SYMPTOMS associated with an allergy or sensitivity can contribute to common conditions such as:

Asthma, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). However not all cases involve allergies or sensitivities.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is primarily caused by sensitivities and affects approximately 15% of the population. Common symptoms include diarrhea, constipation, and bloating and abdominal pain.

Skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis and hives are commonly associated with the symptoms of an allergy or sensitivity.

PLEASE BE ADVISED

AAT cannot guarantee any results. While AAT may be highly effective in the relief of many symptoms associated with allergies or sensitivities, some cases do not respond.

*AAT does not treat cases of anaphylaxis or life threatening symptoms. Strict avoidance is always advised.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How soon will I see results?
Many cases respond quickly to the treatment and achieve long-term results within the first few treatments. However, each case is different and some patients require additional treatment.

What are the most common symptoms addressed in the clinic? I have added more symptoms – since we are taking out the conditions above.
Bloating, cramping, reflux, heartburn, gas, diarrhea, nausea, runny nose, sneezing, congestion, post-nasal drip, itchy watery eyes, coughs, wheezing, shortness of breath, red, scaly or itchy rashes, blisters with oozing and crusting, dry leathery skin areas, hives, itchy skin, hyperactivity, mood swings, headaches, fatigue, tiredness, chemical sensitivities, reactions to the sun, any negative reaction to harmless substances.

How many sessions are needed?
The number of sessions required depends on the number of items causing a reaction. For example, a patient who reacts to five families of substances (dairy, wheat, corn, animal dander and pollen) may require between 5 to 12 sessions to relieve the symptoms or resolve a condition.

Is there an age restriction for the treatments?
No. All ages may be treated, including infants.

How long do I have to wait before I can have contact with the items that were addressed in my session?
Following a session, a patient should avoid the substance that was treated for 2 hours, if possible. Depending on the item addressed, avoidance is not always possible. It is recommended that the patient not have excessive contact with the item until the following day.

How much does it cost* and what is included?
The Initial Session is $150. which includes an assessment and one treatment.

Follow-Up treatment costs; Single followup sessions are $95, and we also offer discounted packages of 3, 6 and 12 AAT treatments.

*All AAT fees are subject to change.

Can I have more than one treatment in a day?
Yes. Two treatments can be completed in one day. However, there must be at least 2 hours between sessions.

How long are the sessions?
The Initial Session takes approximately 60 minutes and includes an assessment and one treatment. Follow-Up Sessions take 30 minutes and include one treatment.

Are the treatments covered by insurance?
Insurance does not cover AAT treatments at Glastonbury Naturopathic Center.

How do I make an appointment?
You can make an appointment by calling Glastonbury Naturopathic Center directly at 860-657-4105.

Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
Patients should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the Initial Session with your AAT New Patient Forms filled out.

Please do not smoke or wear perfume or fragrances prior to coming in to the clinic.

This is a courtesy to other patients who may be sensitive to those substances.

Please bring any allergy tests from medical doctors to the Initial Session.
Prescription or over-the-counter medications will not affect the treatment.

Patients who have other therapies (massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, etc) scheduled on the same day as the AAT treatment should schedule those therapies PRIOR to the AAT treatment, if possible.

If experiencing an acute stage of illness including an elevated temperature, the patient should contact the clinic to reschedule the appointment.

Glastonbury Naturopathic Center DOES NOT treat anaphylaxis or any life-threatening symptoms. Strict avoidance is always advised.

Do I need to stop taking any of my medications before the treatment?
No, patients do not need to stop taking medication that has been prescribed by a medical doctor without his/her authorization. You may continue taking over the counter medication to control current symptoms, as this will not affect the treatment.

Are there any guarantees that my symptoms will be relieved?
Unfortunately, we can offer no guarantees; however, the majority of our patients respond favorably to the AAT treatment on a long-term basis. We cannot guarantee that new symptoms will not develop in the future.

What qualifications do the practitioners have?
All practitioners at Glastonbury Naturopathic Center are fully credentialed health care practitioners.

Can a food intolerance be treated?
No. A food intolerance is different from an allergy or sensitivity in that there may be an enzyme deficiency, which inhibits the body from properly digesting the substance. Such cases are not affected by the treatment.

Can you treat for anaphylactic symptoms?
No. We do not treat conditions involving anaphylactic reactions.
However, patients with an anaphylactic reaction may be treated for other sensitivities that are not life threatening.

  • Get Outside This Spring  Spring is finally here! The weather is warming up, which means it’s time to begin planting flowers in the garden, doing lawn preparation or just spending time outside enjoying the warm weather. It is lovely to be surrounded by all of the plants and trees that are in full bloom at this time of the year. However, if you are like the millions of people in the US who suffer with seasonal allergy symptoms, the downside of spending time outside can be the itchy eyes, running nose and sneezing that can take out the fun out of enjoying this time of year Allergies are pretty common. Both genes and environmental factors play a role.   The immune system normally protects the body against harmful substances, such as bacteria and viruses. It also reacts to foreign substances called allergens, which are generally harmless and in most people do not cause a problem.   But in a person with allergies, the immune response is oversensitive. When it recognizes an allergen such as pollen, it releases chemicals such as histamines. which fight off the allergen. This causes allergy symptoms.   Common springtime allergy symptoms include:   Sneezing Itchy, red or watery eyes Runny nose Congestion Fatigue  Headaches Skin reactionsSome individuals with severe allergy sensitivities may experience rashes, hives and breathing problems as well. Tree pollens are already in the air. Grass pollens and then weed pollens will follow them. Windy, sunny or clear days will often be worse for people with seasonal allergy symptoms than wet, cloudy or windless days because pollens travel more easily when there is no dampness in the air. Keep this in mind as you prepare for outdoor yard work or play. Even garden-variety flowers and flowering trees such as apple trees, oak trees (acorn flower) produce large amounts of pollen every year and can cause severe allergic symptoms. Many pollens that are carried by the wind are usually very lightweight and almost invisible to the eye but can pack a serious punch on the sinuses. A major issue with pollens these days is that the majority of plants, trees and shrubs planted in urban areas are male. Male plants produce the pollen grains that cause the majority of seasonal allergy symptoms. Homeowners and developers select the male plants because they are low maintenance and do not produce seedpods or fruits that leave such a mess in yards and surrounding areas. The most intensely pollen producing plants are being planted simply because they don’t make a mess. With more urban development occurring and more male pollen producing plants being planted, allergy symptoms will continue to rise. Compounding the pollen issue in the spring is the fact that greenhouse gases are having a big impact on increasing pollen production, contributing to the global increase in allergy symptoms. As things heat up, pollen production increases as well. Plant pollens are not the only trigger for gardeners as they prepare their lawns. Mold and mildew play a big role in seasonal symptoms because their spores affect people in the springtime as well as year round. Mold can be found in the new soil that is brought in for yard plantings or in the mulch that is used in garden beds. Also please remember, if you are composting, molds are in the compost pile as well. Springtime is a great time of year and should be enjoyed by everyone, even people who suffer with symptoms associated with allergies and sensitivities. At Glastonbury Naturopathic Center, we offer Advanced Allergy Therapy that can help relieve or significantly reduce the symptoms associated with the springtime pollen season. This treatment is non-invasive and does not include needles, supplements or medications. It is completely pain-free and available to all ages, including infants.  If you suffer from springtime allergy symptoms, please call Glastonbury Naturopathic Center today at 860-657-4105 and find out how we can help!
  •   Say Goodbye to Allergy Medicines! Springtime is already here, and pollen levels are higher than ever! Spring is such a beautiful time of year and it can be a great time to be outside. However, thousands of people dread springtime because for them it can be debilitating. Some people are forced to stay inside just so they can breathe. Many experience non-stop symptoms of sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, congestion, and runny nose with a foggy head or headache when they simply walk outdoors. Prescription and over-the counter allergy medicines go only so far in relieving allergy symptoms. Others may be luckier and only experience some of the symptoms associated with springtime allergies. The most common triggers of springtime allergy symptoms are pollens, grasses, and trees. Tree pollens are what often affect the early springtime sufferers. The time and duration of springtime allergy symptoms are determined by the species of tree causing the reaction. Trees are the earliest pollen producers of the year, releasing their pollen as early as March and as late as June. Trees can aggravate allergy symptoms, even if they are not on your property, since trees release large amounts of pollen that can travel miles away from the original source. When springtime allergy symptoms are high, other common, year-round triggers such as mold, dust and dust mites, animal dander and cockroaches can affect some people even more than they do during other times of year. That happens because more of a burden is placed on an already stressed immune system during this time of the year. Allergies are pretty common. If you suffer from any of the above symptoms, you are not alone.   Pollen allergies affect nearly 19 million people in the US alone with one of the main symptoms being allergic rhinitis, affecting between 10% and 30% of all adults and as many as 40% of all children.  Spring allergy season hit us extremely hard last year because the amount of pollen floating around was four times greater than usual. Pollen is measured in grains per cubic meter. For trees, 1,500 grains of pollen per cubic meter is considered high. Last spring, areas along the East Coast measured 6,000 grains per cubic meter. There is no way to predict if pollen counts this year will be as high as they were last spring since daily and seasonal weather conditions affect the pollen counts and make it difficult to make precise predictions more than a few days in advance.  If you have ever experienced springtime allergy symptoms, then you should prepare for allergy season and consider addressing your symptoms early. Why suffer through another spring season? At Glastonbury Naturopathic Center we offer an advanced therapy that can help relieve or significantly reduce the symptoms associated with pollen season.  This treatment is non-invasive and does not include needles, supplements or medications.  It is completely pain-free and available to all ages, including infants.  If you suffer from springtime allergy symptoms, please call our offices today at 860-657-4105 and find out how we can help.
  • Finally! Proof of What We already Know! Foods high in fiber provide good protection against cardiovascular disease, and the effect is particularly marked in women. This is shown in a new study from Lund University in Sweden. The study, which was recently published in the scientific journal PLOS One, involved the study of the eating habits of over 20 000 residents of the Swedish city of Malmö, with a focus on the risk of cardiovascular disease. The importance of 13 different nutrient variables (aspects of fiber, fats, proteins and carbohydrates) was analyzed. “Women who ate a diet high in fiber had an almost 25 per cent lower risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease compared with women who ate a low-fiber diet. In men the effect was less pronounced. However, the results confirmed that a high-fiber diet does at least protect men from stroke”, says Peter Wallström, a researcher at Lund University and the primary author of the article. The exact reason for the difference between the sexes is unclear. However, a probable explanation is that women consume fiber from healthier food sources than men do. Women ate a lot of fiber in the form of fruit and vegetables, whereas the most important source of fiber for men was bread. “The difference in the results for men and women shows that we need to pay more attention to gender when we conduct research on diet”, says Peter Wallström. However, the researchers did not identify any definite links between the other nutrients in the study and cardiovascular disease, for example the proportion of saturated fat or sugar in the diet. “These results should be interpreted with a certain amount of caution. Almost everyone eats more saturated fat than recommended, including the participants in many other population studies. It is therefore difficult to compare recommended and high fat intake. Other types of study that have been carried out have shown that those who limit their fat and sugar intake are at lower risk of cardiovascular disease”, says Peter Wallström. Peter Wallström is sceptical of ‘extreme’ diets and says that the dietary recommendations from the National Food Administration are good, despite having received criticism: “The National Food Administration’s dietary advice, which is based on extensive research, is well balanced. In the short term, most weight-loss diets achieve their aim as long as you follow them. However, we know too little about the long-term effects to be able to recommend more drastic changes to one’s diet”, says Peter Wallström. Data for the study has been taken from the Malmö Diet and Cancer population study, which has involved 30 000 Malmö residents since the start of the 1990s. The participants have given blood samples and detailed information about their diet. The study Title: Dietary Fiber and Saturated Fat Intake Associations with Cardiovascular Disease Differ by Sex in the Malmö Diet and Cancer Cohort: A Prospective Study Where is the best source of fiber in our food? Answer: (not processed bread, pasta or cereals) FRESH ORGANIC VEGETABLES, LEAFY GREENS, FRUITS AND BERRIES, BEANS & LEGUMES, and SOME NUTS and SEEDS such as chia seeds, flax seeds and hemp seeds. WHOLE GRAINS-there is a huge misconception about what whole grains REALLY are. They are not breads, cereals or any other processed food product labeled as having “whole grain”, whether or not they are “whole wheat”. Once a wheat kernel is ground up into flour to be made into bread, pasta or any other sort of flour-based food, it is no longer a “whole grain”, it is a processed grain. Instant oatmeal, cornflakes, Cherrios, and many other mass produced breakfast cereals are not whole grains at all. Whole grains are grains that are consumed exactly as they came from the earth-before processing into flour, pasta, bread or cereal. Here are some healthy high fiber, whole grains: brown rice, wild rice, oat groats, quinoa, millet, amaranth, buckwheat groats. These whole grains can be cooked and consumed in place of any cereal. STORE-BOUGHT FRUIT JUICE is no substitute for the fiber, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants you get from eating fresh organic fruit and berries. Not only is processed juice devoid of fiber, it also is devoid of most nutrients that are destroyed during the pasteurization, bottling and canning process. Making your own fresh juice is a great option to processed juice, and saves you money!  Your food fiber sources should consist of 80-90% fresh, organic vegetables, leafy greens, fruits and vegetables, with nuts, seeds and whole grains 10-20% of your fiber source.  A fast and easy way to get your fiber from fresh organic vegetables, leafy greens and fruits is to make a SMOOTHIE every day. Your SMOOTHIE can be anything you like, as long as you make it with fresh, organic produce.  Morning Hi-Fiber SMOOTHIE 8 oz spring water ½ cup organic strawberries (fresh or frozen, as long as they are organic) ½ organic banana Additional ingredients: organic apple, pear, mango, peach, kiwi, orange, grapefruit 1 cup organic spinach leaves, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, kale etc. Blend all ingredients in a blender until creamy and smooth. ENJOY!
