Fresh juice is a nutrient-dense living liquid that is absorbed almost instantly into the body (in about 15 minutes!), requiring little effort to digest and assimilate. Juicing concentrates the most nutrient-dense parts of the plants in the juice. It is almost like receiving an intravenous infusion of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that goes right into your system without having to be broken down. Because the benefits are so instantaneous, you may feel the energy boost right away after drinking fresh juice!

Juicing should be a supplement to your diet, unless you are on a specific juice fast or cleanse, which is an extremely valuable practice. Juice is packed with nutrition, but does not have insoluble fiber – which is crucial for proper digestive health. However, juice actually does contain some fiber – soluble fiber. Soluble fiber is present in juice in the form of pectin, gums, and mucilage. It can help lower your cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar, and encourages good bowel bacteria.
Making your own juice allows you to use a wider variety of vegetables, leaves, roots, shoots and stems that you might not otherwise eat, expanding your range of nutrients. Juicing wild plants can be tremendously beneficial as well, as they typically are even higher in nutrient-density and life force energy.
Raw fresh juice also contains biophotonic light energy, which revitalizes your body on a light and energy level. The light of living juice has actually been seen with Kirlian photography, where the beautiful light fields around living things is made visible. Kirlian photos of cooked vegetables and pasteurized juice reveal very little “light” emanating from them.
Fresh, raw juice is a live food with the full spectrum of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and enzymes. Commercially processed, bottled, canned, frozen or packaged juices have been pasteurized, meaning the juice has been exposed to high temperatures, and many of the vitamins and enzymes have died off or have been removed.
One crucial benefit of juicing has to do with creating alkalinity in the body. Most people’s bodies are far too acidic. The ideal body pH is around 7.4, just slightly alkaline. Our modern diets are filled with acidifying foods, such as processed starches, refined sugars, factory-farmed meat & dairy products, processed & packaged foods, food additives, flavorings & colors. Nearly all who suffer from chronic illness have this acidity problem. Vegetables, and particularly greens, are alkaline, so when you juice, it will raise the pH of your body to a more beneficial level.
I highly recommend consuming primarily green juices, because fruit, carrot and beet juices have highly concentrated sugars, which can create imbalance. Remember to “chew” your juice, by moving it around in your mouth, to activate digestive enzymes. And of course, only use organic vegetables and fruits when juicing, otherwise any pesticides and toxins present will be concentrated in the juice.
Which is the “best” juicer? There are many "styles" of juicers available on the market today. Some are better suited for juicing certain kinds of produce than others. There is no "perfect" juicer that will perform every juicing operation with equal quality. Please evaluate your needs carefully before purchasing a juicer. I like the Green Star Juicer, the Samson Juicer (similar to Green Star but more affordable), the Champion Juicer, the Omega Juicer and the Hurom Slow Juicer. The Miracle Electric Juicer is made for juicing wheatgrass, but some of the others, such as the twin gear juicers – the Green Star and Samson will do wheatgrass as well. The Champion Juicer is extra-powerful, does not do wheatgrass, but it can make amazing ice crème and nut butters! Most of these brands have several models, so do your research and decide which one is right for you. Really, the best juicer is the one you have. If you are already in possession of a juicer, then you are lucky! If it gets you juicing you will start to get the feel for it and start reaping the benefits. You will upgrade when the time is right.
Juicing is very easy, and you can't really go too wrong. Feel out intuitively which veggies and greens you are drawn to, and try them. In a short amount of time, you will get the hang of juicing and which combinations taste the best for you. Remember to include as much GREEN leaves, cucumber or celery in your juice as possible, because you will derive the most benefit from the green juices! Happy Juicing!
